WASHINTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO-02) released the below statement following the U.S. Supreme Court announcement that it will hear President Obama’s request to restore his deportation amnesty program:
“Over the past several decades, it has become clear that our immigration system is broken and we must find meaningful solutions to secure our borders and fix the de-facto amnesty we see today. However, the solution to this issue will be solved only when the President enforces existing law and works with the elected members of Congress, not by undermining the Constitution through an executive power grab.
“While lower courts have already ruled the President’s unilateral action to grant amnesty as unlawful, he continues to prioritize his personal agenda, ignoring the rule of law and the American people. I was proud to cosponsor the Preventing Executive Overreach on Immigration Act, which passed the House last Congress, and to join 112 of my colleagues in filing a brief in support of Congress in this case. Congress has spoken time and again, clearly demonstrating our intent that forcing amnesty on the American people is unacceptable. I look forward to the Supreme Court upholding congressional intent and ending the President's illegal executive amnesty.”
Background:
In May 2015, Congresswoman Wagner joined 112 other members of Congress in signing an amicus brief on behalf of Texas v. the United States, challenging President Obama's executive actions on immigration.
