Democrats Block Protections Against Infanticide in Appropriations Bill
Washington, D.C. —Representative Ann Wagner (R-Mo.) and Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after Democrats blocked an amendment during the appropriations process to prohibit federal funds from going to entities that do not protect babies born alive during an abortion.
"Babies who survive abortions should be given lifesaving care, not left alone in the ultimate state of vulnerability. Government funding should not support the activities of those who will not act to save the lives of born-alive babies, but Democrats blocked our amendment that would have protected these newborn children while upholding the values of American taxpayers," said Rep. Wagner. “The lives of all babies, ‘wanted’ or ‘unwanted,’ are immeasurably precious, and I will continue to fight for a world where all babies receive lifesaving care, especially those who survive abortions."
“Our government shouldn’t be using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion providers, particularly abortion providers who do not act to save the lives of babies born alive during an abortion. Refusing life-saving care to a newborn baby is not health care, no matter the circumstances of birth,” said Whip Scalise. “These babies are the most vulnerable members of society and deserve our compassion. Democrats have completely lost sight of reality with their heartless abortion extremism.”
