Rep. Wagner Statement on Iran Nuclear Agreement
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-Mo.) today issued the below statement on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear program.
“The American people and our allies have waited for years for the Obama Administration to secure an agreement that would permanently dismantle Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Instead, the President has delivered a deal that provides Iran with billions of dollars of sanctions relief, without foreclosing the possibility of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon in the foreseeable future,” Rep. Wagner said. “This deal risks the security of the U.S. and its allies, especially the state of Israel, and allows Iran to pursue its agenda of destabilization and aggression throughout the Middle East and beyond.
“I will continue to review every aspect of this agreement in detail, but I begin from a place of deep skepticism about the President’s motivations in reaching this deal. As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said when he addressed Congress earlier this year, ‘No deal is better than a bad deal.’ That adage still holds true, and the American people deserve better than to have their security threatened by an Administration willing to cut a deal at any cost for the sake of a foolish and dangerous legacy.”
