Wagner Calls on St. Louis County to Distribute CARES Act Public Safety Funding
Ballwin, MO – Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO), Chair of the House Suburban Caucus, released the following statement demanding action from the St. Louis County Executive to distribute CARES Act funding to local municipalities:
“The CARES Act was signed into law on March 27th, and St. Louis County has had our funding since late April. It has been four months, and still our local municipalities have not received any of these funds for public safety.
“It is outrageous they have yet to receive this funding while the pandemic has continued to hurt our communities. I have spoken to the Municipal League and our municipalities and they need these funds immediately. Our public safety is at risk without these funds, and it is unconscionable that the county refuses to act. These funds are needed to prevent law enforcement layoffs, pay public safety officials, and help pay for medical care, housing, and other essential services that stabilize our communities and families. I have spoken to the County Executive multiple times to express my deep concerns about this inaction and have had enough. St. Louis County municipalities are hurting. I helped pass the CARES Act in Congress to support our local communities and help them respond to the coronavirus, and it greatly disappoints me to see this vital funding withheld from them in a time of crisis.”
