U.S. Delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly Statement on Commitment by NATO Allies to Increase Defense Spending to 5% of GDP

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly today issued the following statement after NATO Allies committed to increased defense spending targets of 5 percent of GDP annually by 2035:

"The success of the NATO Summit is the Alliance's commitment to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP. Threats against peace and security from Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea underscore the critical need of increased military investment and strengthening NATO'S defense posture. Secretary General Rutte's unwavering leadership and belief that the United States, Europe and Canada must be equal partners in promoting security through strength is essential for NATO's future."
