Wagner Responds to New EPA Report on West Lake
Yesterday, the Environmental Protection Agency released its most recent monthly report on the status of the West Lake Landfill. The EPA reported further testing to determine the extent of the radiologically impacted material (RIM). Testing showed RIM is present in the north quarry of the Bridgeton landfill, showing the RIM is closer to the fire than previously thought. Upon learning the results of this testing, Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO-02) released the following statement:
"I am disappointed the EPA has once again proven they cannot be trusted to properly manage the danger to public health at the West Lake landfill. For years the Agency has assured families that the radioactive material was isolated to one area, and we now know that is not the case.
"We must prioritize the safety and security of those living in the West Lake Community, which is why I will not stop fighting until the EPA hands over management of the landfill to the trusted Army Corps of Engineers."
