Wagner Legislation To Honor St. Louisan Ulysses S. Grant Passes House

December 12, 2022

Washington, D.C.  – Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) released the following statement after passing her legislation to posthumously promote Civil War hero and St. Louis resident, President Ulysses S. Grant, to the highest rank in the US Army in honor of his bicentennial.

“As an Army mom, I have tremendous respect for anyone who answers the call of duty to protect and defend our nation. That’s why I am so proud to pass this legislation to honor one of the most influential military leaders in American history, Ulysses S. Grant. Missourians embody the values of President Grant. We are hardworking but humble, tough but generous, and feel a deep connection to our family, our neighbors, and our country. I look forward to the Senate passing this legislation and promoting Grant to General of the Armies of the United States.

“I would like to thank the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, the Ulysses S. Grant Association, the Grant Monument Association, and the National U.S. Grant Trail Association for all of their help and advocacy for this legislation. And I would also like to give a special thank you to our National Park Service, who graciously welcomed Senator Blunt and me to Grant’s St. Louis home, White Haven, to announce the introduction of this bill. I encourage everyone to visit this National Historic Site located in Missouri’s 2nd District to learn more about the incredible life and legacy of Ulysses S. Grant.”
