Wagner Resolution Honoring the 75th Anniversary of U.S.-Israel Relations Passes House

April 25, 2023

Washington, D.C.  – Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO), Vice Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Co-Chair of the Abraham Accords Caucus, along with Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Representative Brad Schneider (D-IL), Vice Ranking Member Kathy Manning (D-NC), Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Representative David Trone (D-MD) released the following statement after the resolution honoring the 75th anniversary of U.S.-Israel relations and calling for the expansion and strengthening of the Abraham Accords passed the House.

“My resolution honors the decades-long partnership between the United States and Israel that underpins security in the Middle East and promotes economic growth throughout the region.  The bipartisan passage of this resolution reaffirms our commitment to the people of Israel and promotes vital security assistance so they can defend themselves in the face of an increasingly aggressive Iran,” said Vice Chair Wagner. “We urge other nations to normalize relations with Israel and ensure existing agreements continue to provide necessary economic and national security for those in the area.”

“The United States and Israel have stood together as partners since Israel’s founding 75 years ago to overcome shared challenges and global threats,” said Chairman McCaul. “Together, we’ve achieved major milestones, such as the signing of the historic Abraham Accords. I look forward to continuing the longstanding tradition of friendship and partnership between our two countries.”

“For 75 years, the United States and Israel have built an extraordinary and enduring alliance based on our shared interests and fundamental values. Together, our two countries have championed democracy, partnered on technological achievements, increased regional security, and celebrated our shared fundamental values,” said Vice Ranking Member Kathy Manning. “As a proud, lifelong supporter of a strong, bipartisan U.S.- Israel relationship, I also support a two-state solution which preserves Israel’s fundamental character as a Jewish, democratic state. On the 75th anniversary of Israel’s independence, I’m proud of the accomplishments our countries have achieved together, including the historic Abraham Accords, and I look forward to strengthening both the historic, bipartisan U.S. Israel relationship, and a two-state solution in the years to come.”

“I am beyond proud that the United States was the first nation to recognize the nascent state of Israel in 1948. In the three score and 15 years since, our shared values have been the bedrock of an extraordinary relationship, strengthening our ties along cultural, economic, technological and security lines, and in so many more ways as well. Throughout my life, I have prayed for a just and lasting peace for Israel and all the people of the region. I have joyously celebrated each of peace agreements between Israel and Egypt, Israel and Jordan, the Abraham Accords between UAE, Bahrain and Morocco. And I know in my heart that peace can one day be achieved with the Palestinians with a negotiated two-state solution that would give us a Jewish, democratic Israel and a demilitarized, democratic Palestinian state living side by side in peace, security, and prosperity,” said Congressman Brad Schneider.  “Again, we celebrate with Israel 75 years of independence, 75 years of partnership, 75 years of scientific and medical research and innovation that gave us the cell phone, Waze directions, and drip irrigation – revolutionizing agriculture around the world –  75 years of cultural exchange, 75 years of economic growth with a startup nation, 75 years of security cooperation, 75 years of together pursuing peace: peace with Egypt in 1979, peace with Jordan in 1994, with the Abraham Accords – again, UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco. I wish Israelis, the Israeli people and the state of Israel, congratulations on 75 years and we all look forward to building together towards a better future for Israel and the region for years to come.”

“It is with great pride that I join my colleagues in recognizing the 75 years Israel has stood strong as an independent nation,” said Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers. “For all these years, Israel and the United States have maintained an unbreakable alliance grounded in our shared love of freedom and strengthened by the Abraham Accords. I am proud of the progress we have made to promote democracy around the world, and I am eager to continue our work to foster a future of peace and prosperity across the Middle East.”

“As a co-founder and co-chair of the House Abraham Accords Caucus and a strong supporter of the U.S.-Israel relationship, I believe it is critical that we work to strengthen the Accords and, by extension, peace in the Middle East,” said Congressman Trone.  “The Abraham Accords have proven to be an incredible display of cooperation and diplomacy’s potential in the region. We should do everything we can to build on and support the Accords' continued success.”
