Wagner Slams Out of Touch State of the Union Address

March 7, 2024

“The State of our Union is chaotic”

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) released the following statement on President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address:

“This is just more of the out of touch, lead from behind nonsense that has made our nation less safe and more expensive.  Missouri families are hurting from the high costs of groceries and gas, and crime has forced convenience stores to shut their doors, limiting options for so many and leading to the decline of our communities.  President Biden’s reckless policies have opened the flood gates for illegal immigrants to swarm across our border, and with them human traffickers and illegal drugs like fentanyl.  Drug overdoses are skyrocketing and have torn apart so many families.  America needed to hear from a President who will close the border, stop recklessly spending your taxpayer dollars, and put criminals behind bars.

“Joe Biden’s weak leadership has emboldened dictatorships like Russia, China, and Iran, undermining global stability that impacts the safety not just of Americans abroad, but of all of us here at home.  Our allies need an American leader who is confident, dependable, and who will not hesitate to defend our common interests against our enemies.  They have no confidence Joe Biden is that President.

“My guest for tonight’s address was Mark Schmitz, father of Missouri’s own Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz who tragically died in the terrorist bombing in Kabul during President Biden’s reprehensible flight from Afghanistan. Mark was one of many Gold Star families in attendance who lost children during the Abbey Gate bombing.  I am utterly disappointed, but not surprised, President Biden refused to apologize to them for his decision that led to the death of their children.  The State of our Union is chaotic, and Joe Biden is doing nothing to calm the very real fears many Americans have about our national security, the sorry state of our open border, and the lawlessness on the streets of our neighborhoods.”
