Wagner Statement on Her Vote to Give US Troops Largest Pay Raise in Decades
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Ann Wagner (R-MO) released the following statement on the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):
“This year’s National Defense Authorization Act comes at a time when our adversaries like China, Russia, and Iran are working to advance their influence around the world and threaten global stability. The NDAA cracks down on waste and strengthens Congressional oversight so Missourians can have confidence our tax dollars are being used appropriately and effectively. It includes the largest pay raise for our troops in over two decades, and provides support to military spouses and children who often bear a burden while our servicemen and women are away from home.
“I also was proud to support important funding that helps secure our border, preventing illegal immigrants from streaming into our communities, as well as funding to help local law enforcement disrupt the cross-border drug trafficking operations that are feeding addictions in our neighborhoods and taking innocent lives. In the face of China’s constant efforts to assert control over Taiwan, we reaffirmed our support of Taiwan and the Pacific Island region, remaining committed to countering China’s growing reach. The NDAA also enhances our security cooperation with Israel, ensuring our closest ally in the Middle East can defend itself from ongoing attacks that threaten its right to exist.
“This legislation also includes my important amendment to address the shocking rise in child sexual abuse and exploitation in the United States and around the world. It will direct the Pentagon to analyze ways the Department can better combat child sexual abuse and recommend educational programs for servicemembers to identify and report exploitation—both online and offline—to law enforcement.
“I encourage the Senate to swiftly pass a defense authorization of their own, so Congress can deliver for our troops, and strengthen our nation from foreign adversaries like China, Russia and Iran.”
